Reflecting God's mercy will lead us to seek the salvation of the lost, repeatedly forgive and restore the undeserving, spare people from destruction in the midst of dangerous circumstances beyond their control, spare some from expected and deserved punishment, chasten others to prevent them from falling deeper into destructive patterns, to patiently, repeatedly restrain retributive impulses in light of the frailties of their object, and to alleviate the physical and emotional distress of others.
